What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Contact forms
We use a Contact Form which requires your name, email address, Comments, and a Captcha to prove you are a human being and not an automated bot account.
This information goes through our website spam filters, and may be segregated before being forwarded to the publisher/owner of the site. All contact information that is flagged as potential spam is evaluated weekly by the owner/publisher. If it is determined to be spam, it is permanently flagged as such before being discarded.
We keep your information for a period of three months for customer support purposes, or so that the owner/publisher may reply to you. After that, the information is discarded.
Your personal information is not shared with any marketers, other social media companies, or anyone else.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
This site uses a Page and Post “counting” plug-in that anonymously keeps track of the total number of unique views each individual Page and Post accrues. No IP or other information is connected with theses Page/Post views, and none of the visiting IP information is stored.
Who we share your data with
If you post Comments or fill in this site’s Contact forms, your name, IP address, email address, and email URL and IP address become part of your record of contact.
We share this data with WordPress’ anti-spam monitor Askimet to detect spam. If it is determined to be safe and legitimate information, this site sends an email to the owner/publisher, notifying her of new Comments awaiting moderation/approval/reply.
If you fill out the Contact information via this website, it collects your name, email, and IP address. All of this information, along with the Message, is forwarded to the owner/publisher via the website’s private email, through GoDaddy’s private email servers.
Any Comment or Contact information deemed to be spam is deleted from this site immediately.
Any legitimate Contact Information is saved for 3 months for customer service purposes, then safely discarded.
Otherwise, we do not share your data with anyone.
What third parties we receive data from
We do not receive any data about users from third parties, including advertisers or affiliates.
Regarding Book Purchases
Please note that we do not sell directly from this website.
If you click on any of the links to purchase books, you will be taken to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Walmart, etc where you will be able to complete the purchase via their secure websites. None of that information is ever shared with us, and we never collect any financially sensitive information, such as credit card information, or any location-specific information, such as your physical address or phone number, for any reason.
Regarding Affiliate Links
Some of these posts contain affiliate links which means that, if you click through to purchase the product indicated, we may receive a small commission from your purchase. Any posts with affiliate links are clearly indicated; these specific posts contain ads which will take you to the product being discussed, explained, or reviewed. If you click on the ads to purchase items, you will be taken to sites with whom we are affiliates, i.e., Amazon or Sound Vitality, where you will be able to complete the purchase via their secure websites.
None of that information is ever shared with us, nor do we ever have access to it.
We never collect any financially sensitive information, such as credit card information, or any location-specific information, such as your physical address or phone number, for any reason.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
